How To Move A Couch With A 2-Wheeled Dolly

Whether you're moving into your dream home or you just bought a new couch to match your newly painted living room walls, you should purchase or rent a dolly to make moving your couch a breeze. Dollies come in several shapes and styles, but a common type of dolly is simply a flat, horizontal 2-wheeled cart that has an "L" shape. These are also called hand trucks. This type of dolly usually has a solid platform on the bottom to support cargo, and a handle at the top to make it easy to tip backwards and then push or pull the dolly to bring the cargo to the desired location.

This is how to move a couch with a 2-wheeled dolly:

1. Move the dolly close to the couch.

2. Have a friend help you lift the couch up onto one side, so it's standing tall. Have your helper support the couch while you grab the dolly.

3. Slide the lip at the bottom of the dolly under the backside of the short end of the couch. Make sure the back of the couch is resting against the back of the dolly.

4. Use your foot to push on the bottom of the dolly so it tips back, with the couch leaning on it. The couch will now be lifted off the floor. Don't let go or the weight of the couch will cause it and the dolly to fall backwards. Someone must be supporting the couch by holding the dolly at all times while it's leaning backwards.

5. Strap the couch to the dolly with rope or bungee cords to keep it from falling off and causing injury or damage..

6. With the couch leaning back on the dolly, tilt the dolly down enough that you can comfortably push the couch to it's new position. To move the dolly, put your hands on the handle and push forward. You can also pull the dolly backwards by pulling on the handle. Make sure you push the dolly slowly so the couch doesn't fall off. Also be careful not to bump into any walls, because it will probably leave a dent.

7. When the couch is in or near it's new location, simply rest the dolly upright. Slide the lip of the dolly out from under the couch. Then, put the couch back down on onto it's 4 legs and slide it into position.

If you need to move the sofa through a door to bring it to it's new location, then follow these instructions:

1. Measure the height and width of the door you need to pass the couch through. Then measure the height, width, and length of the couch. Make sure the couch will fit through the door. If you need to, you can remove the legs on the couch to get it through the door. If that doesn't give you enough room, you may also have to remove the door.

2. Stand the couch up on it's side, and position it so that the feet at the bottom will enter the doorway first. Then, hold the couch at an angle so the bottom and the back from a V. Stand behind the couch so you're looking at the back and part of the bottom. The couch's seat needs to be facing inside.

3. Have a helper on each side of the doorway to help you maneuver the seat of the couch through the doorway, allowing the couch to curl around the doorway. Keep pushing until the couch is completely through the doorway. Then grab your dolly and move the couch to it's final destination.

If you are having any trouble moving your couch, you can hire a professional to come to your home, dismantle your couch, move it, and then reassemble it. This may require the couch to be reupholstered, which can be expensive. But if you love your couch, it's worth the price.
